Tribute

By Karen Aldain

Listen to a recording of this song:

I actually wrote this last Gathering, before I was taking such an active part in the faction, but it never got performed, and it seemed fitting to dedicate it to Hargrim.

I stood behind and I watched you leave,
And I wondered, would you come home, would I grieve?
Would you die for me,
So that I would be free?
I lack the strength to follow where you lead.

And did you know you were a hero
When you took the battlefield?
Did you know that we were counting on you?
Did you know this would be your last stand?
Yet you faced death as you lived, standing true.

Our history is written in adversity:
Through hardship we have endured.
When our own fell to darkness
or the demons advanced,
You held the line, set your shields to the fore.

And did you know that you were heroes
When you took the battlefield?
Did you know that we were counting on you?
Did you know this would be your last stand?
Yet you faced death as you lived, standing true.

It’s not enough to offer up your life.
Are you prepared for the final sacrifice?
Will the void take your pattern?
Will your body be raised
And sent back to your own to fight?

And do you know that you are heroes
When you take the battlefield?
Do you know that we are counting on you?
Do you know this could be your last stand?
Yet you face death as you’ve lived, standing true.
Never think we don’t know what you do.
